JU Teachers’ Association demands Immediate appointment of permanent VC, writes to Governor

The Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) has urged Governor C.V. Ananda Bose to immediately initiate the process of appointing a permanent Vice-Chancellor for the university. In a letter to the Governor and Chancellor of the university, JUTA President Partha Pratim Biswas stated that the absence of permanent leadership is causing several administrative and academic issues. He warned that if these issues are not resolved soon, they could have long-term negative consequences for the university.

He further stated that, in the absence of a permanent Vice-Chancellor, the decision-making process is being affected, disrupting crucial tasks such as faculty recruitment, implementation of academic policies, and overall administration. The uncertainty in leadership is also impacting the morale of both teachers and students, thereby affecting the university’s academic environment. Additionally, JUTA cautioned that the lack of permanent administration could damage the university’s reputation and hinder its ability to attract quality students and researchers.

Notably, Jadavpur University has been functioning without a permanent Vice-Chancellor for the past one and a half years. During this period, Bhaskar Gupta has been serving as the acting Vice-Chancellor. Meanwhile, Governor Bose recently stated that he is aware of the current situation at Jadavpur University and that a decision will be taken soon in the best interest of the institution and all its stakeholders. JUTA had also recently brought this issue to the attention of Education Minister Bratya Basu.
